- welded & polished iron and ceramic melts together into one organic shape. A flap of skin, an atrophied protective shield, an accessory in painted ceramics are combined with a mask of polished iron. I shape the metal part of the sculpture by welding many small iron bits together. This is how I "model" the shape before I polish the metal. The combination of metal and ceramic merges the organic and the technical, the banal and the meaningful. The tension between fragility and massiveness is reflected in the organic forms, which are loaded with different memories and meanings. Time-consuming grinding and polishing bring the desired depths and effects in the light refraction of the metal.
