“COI-self”, 12

My new group of works "COI-self"consists of a series of self-portraits that I took with self-made pinhole camera. With an exposure time of about 40 minutes, physical experience plays a major role during the exposure of the image. The performative character is very important. The long-lasting pausing, standing still is like meditation. The use of pinhole cameras and the resulting omission of a lens are associated with an alchemical processes and the attempt to overcome the separation between viewer and image. I work with different cameras and expose directly onto photo paper. There is a an overlapping and blurring factor in the images that I can't control. I am interested in unpredictability and ambivalence that can be endured. My photographic and sculptural works focus on physical and mental states poised in a fragile balance that threatens to tip or overbalance at any time.
