With Nunzio De Martino (Naples/ITA) and Patric Sandri (Zurich/CH), we are presenting two internationally renowned artists from our gallery programme in a joint duo exhibition as part of Gallery Weekend Tirol.
In their work, both artists explore the possibilities of abstract painting and seek new ways of interpretation, also in terms of technique and material.
Nunzio De Martino swaps his brush for a mechanical sewing machine and develops complex structures with endless networks of lines and curves in a musical rhythm. He organises the picture surface associatively by condensing the lines, separating the background or adding collage-like elements.
In Patric Sandri’s work, the object-like and materiality play a central role in the composition of the picture. Colour and image carrier are detached from the supposed obligations of painting and redefined. Coloured and transparently superimposed polyester fabric strips in red, yellow and blue and reflections make the front and back equally the pictorial content of his object-like painting.
