INFLUENCE
The artists DAG (DE, 1964) and Bram Braam (NL, 1980) distort their vision of reality in abstract forms, both at home in structures of urbanism. They approach a common picture of our current urban surroundings in diverse ways, captured in their ongoing show, INFLUENCE.
Both artists have developed an analytical perspective about urban space, communicated through the use of their selected mediums. While Braam uses the roughness of materials with minimalistic color schemes, DAGs works are colourful, clear and rational. The exhibition INFLUENCE complements both perspectives in an eclectic mix of brutal clarity.
DAG (DE, 1964)
DAGs paintings are based on a grid, which on the one hand functions as a pattern of division, found everywhere in urban space, and on the other, works as a system that is defined by markers and color of triangles, points, circles and squares. The result is a repetitive capturing of vanishing content, sometimes reduced and overlaid. Anomalies are both welcome and necessary to drive the system forward.
Bram Braam (NL, 1980)
Braam’s works play with our perception of urban landscapes in its constant state of flux, dealing with the architecture of our the daily surroundings. In this way, he alters its context and creates new narratives by bringing the outside world into the gallery space – drawing inspiration from the raw environment of Berlin, known for its many contrasts between rich and poor, slick and raw as well as utopian concepts and the Dutch landscape. Bram plays with these contrasts and by contextualising the dissolved materials merges them in his work, reflecting upon the interest in the manufacturability of a city.
