"Anuli Croon's bright paintings are autonomous constructions that are open to multiple interpretations. The two-dimensional images often consist of a colorful mix of stylized figures, buildings, and patterns. They look deceptively simple at first glance, referring to cartoon characters and contemporary advertisements. We might suspect something is 'going on without getting to know what is. Croon's figures are prominently indifferent. Seemingly emotionless, they are male and female simultaneously without providing text or explanation. Because of their postures, hands, and noses, they are individual-like. However, Croon skillfully portrays them differently with a loving touch, winning sympathy and making it possible for the viewer to identify with her figures."
