Philipp Haagers (*1974) abstrakte Malereien erinnern uns an Wolkenformationen oder an in Nebel gehüllte Landschaften - an Eindrücke, die wir mit dem Erleben von Natur verbinden. Sie entstehen durch die Verwendung von Tusche und einem vollständigen Durchwirken des Bildträgers.
Neben seinen großformatigen Bildern aus den Reihen "Nahfeld", "Haager Deep Field" oder "Nebula" entstehen in jüngerer Zeit vermehrt kleinformatige Tuschen, von ihm als Reihe "Bonsai" genannt, die - neben einer Art Verschränkung mit asiatischen Malereitraditionen - das Flüchtige, Spontane der Plenair- und Aquarellmalerei aufgreifen. Sie sind einerseits Entwürfe, ja, Keimlinge und Setzlinge für weitere größere Bilder und spätere Übertragungen in das große Format, gleichzeitig werden hier in der Umkehrung bereits existierende, große Malereien zu Repräsentationen im Kleinformat.
Unter dem Titel BONSAI GARDEN zeigt die Galerie artplosiv in einer facettenreichen Gegenüberstellung aktuelle Klein-, Mittel- und großformatige Arbeiten des Künstlers in den eindrucksvollen historischen Räumen der ehemaligen Vogtei St. Gallen.
Philipp Haager’s (b. 1974) abstract paintings recall cloud formations or landscapes veiled in mist – impressions that we associate with experiencing nature. He creates them by working layer upon layer of ink glazes into water-soaked canvas.
In addition to his large-format paintings from the series “Nahfeld”, “Haager Deep Field” and “Nebula”, Haager has recently taken up producing small ink pieces he calls “Bonsai”. These borrow from various Asian painting traditions while addressing the fleeting and spontaneous qualities of plein-air and watercolour painting. In one sense they serve as sketches, like seedlings or cuttings that will grow into larger pictures or later be translated into a larger format, but at the same time they are also miniatures representing large paintings that already exist.
Under the title BONSAI GARDEN, the gallery artplosiv is presenting a multifaceted array of the artist’s recent small-, medium- and large-format works in the imposing historical rooms of the former bailiwick of St. Gallen.
