Artist Complex
Photographic Portraits from Frida Kahlo to Pablo Picasso
Museum für Fotografie
The concept of the artist is often associated with ingenuity, creativity, and freedom of composition. This show understands this concept as an image constructed of certain conceptions and motifs, as a “complex”. Simultaneously, it is the ubiquitous photographic portrait, which evinces the span of the “artist complex”.
This show presents the manifold forms of portraits of artists in the twentieth century and displays around 150 photographs from the collection of the photographer Angelika Platen. The exhibition encompasses portraits of illustrious artists such as Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso taken by renowned photographers like Brassaï and Robert Doisneau.
