Marcel van Eeden’s exhibition 1525 will be held at Málaga’s CAC from the 20th January until the 26th March 2017. The Dutch artist’s charcoal drawings tell enigmatic, dark and mysterious stories in small sizes.
The drawings, set out as worlds of labyrinthine imagery, are not based on autobiographical experience. The images that Van Eeden uses are archetypical of films, magazines or literary texts created before the twenty-second of November, 1965 – the date of his birth. He acts therefore as a narrator who interweaves history, fiction and the present.
By unifying the sizes and keeping away, with a few exceptions, from colour, a uniform style of appropriating the images and a constant rhythm of execution prevail. In this way, his work has a style that is post-pop, post-televisual and cinematographic.
