Artist and Curator Jonny Star lives and works in Berlin. Coming from the urban subculture of the 80s in Berlin (West) via a study of psychology at TU Berlin, extended stays abroad, operating a cult bar, fashion and farming to Fine Arts. Star´s work is shown internationally since 1996. In her artistic work, Star conducts an inquiry regarding to what end the individual person and/or a society needs art. Her investigation delves into the relationship of art and everyday life, and the status of our society\\\'s consciousness for the necessity of art. Star likewise examines the sense and purpose of her existence as an artist and her working and living conditions as a woman in a patriarchal society. Star investigates gender roles and codifications in our society and develops humorous and effective strategies to make these codifications visible. Biographical experiences and everyday observations serve as the starting point of her work. Within her site-specific installation, an associative combination of bronze sculptures, cloth objects, collages and photographs generates spatial allegories that facilitate a tangibly apprehensible private mythology. Star initiated since 1996 several art projects in Berlin like SUPERUSCHI, which is a platform for her current curatorial activities. www.jonny-star.com
