Detlef Waschkau, born in 1961, lives and works in Berlin. Joseph Stephan Wurmer, born in 1956, lives in Nuremberg and works in Fürth. The material wood connects the two sculptors. While Waschkau finds a way between sculpture and painting, which leads to the reliefs presented in the exhibition with big city scenes, Wurmer draws his formal vocabulary from archeology and foundations of architecture. For both, grids play a role in one way or another. The observer has the experience that grids do not necessarily constrict, but also create space.
