For our exhibition Bitch MATERial, we went on a quest together with almost 30 international artists. We want to open up the horizon and seek for possibilities beyond limitations. We aim to initiate a cultural and social discourse. The goal is to question, to break boundaries and to investigate. Bitch MATERial wants to encourage and display what being a mother means, regardless of gender, tradition and clichés. We explore, if mothers can/ dare/ want to be "bad bitches" … And how much motherliness do the new men incorporate?
Bitch MATERial stands for the powerful, contemporary and, above all, diverse form of mother identity. We show primarily works by women artists who are also mothers. In order to achieve a successful range and a profound discussion of the topic, we want to open the range: How does the LGBTIQ-community deal with the mother topic, what horizon do men open up to us and how much mother is there in childless?
The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive accompanying program: panel discussions, a PechaKucha event, men only, and workshops for children and adults on the subject of mother images, family and gender in the art market.
