Pluto

Pluto is a vintage work from Bradley's much acclaimed Doppelganger series (1999-1012). Focusing on the subconscious intersection between tragic rock stardom, hero worship, and other worldly desire, Bradley photographed his real life double over the course of 13 years in a powerful series of work "about the recycled illusions that are the reality of pop culture." Holland Cotter, New York Times, May 17, 2002. Works from this series are in Museums and collections all over the world, including the Guggenheim, MOMA, Whitney, MOCA, and LACMA.

In Pluto, Bradley photographs the Doppelganger in Tokyo, posing with cult hero signifiers of a cigarette and large sunglasses, and a back stage GUEST pass to an after hours show. All background information has been literally erased, we have no knowledge of the event, or of the place where is he photographed. Information has been covered over with gold marker, suggesting the elevation and transformation of the doppelganger to icon status, thus transcending events, location, and time.

Furthermore, in these mid-2000s doppelganger works we see Bradley's fascination with cosmic intelligence begin to come to the surface. In astrology, Pluto signifies Power, Transformation, and the Underworld. The interplay between Doppelganger and Artist, Projection and Identity, Shadow and Self, are all at work here.
