Today, we are exposed to so many different conflicting and complementary sources of information that the conclusions we draw are as confused as the premises: the signal and the noise are one. Raúl Cordero works in that uncertain space, mixing media in seemingly impossible ways. His A painting the same size as Vincent van Gogh’s “De Zittende Zouave”, although an oil painting, looks to be composed of a dual exposure of a photograph and an enlarged halftone print, with its deconstructively referential title superimposed at the bottom. The elements are connected only through their dissonance. Cordero has works in Mai 36 Galerie Zürich, the Centre Georges Pompidou, MOCA LA, and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana.
