MARCEL VAN EEDEN

The work itself is driven by the pure act of creation, exaltation and the innocent joy of making it. Each piece is made with the will to find sublimity and precision. This refers to my own method of creation, which I named “Amateur Standard” to reflect the passion of a hobbyist. Choosing imperfection before virtuosity.
What is it about your studio space that inspires you?
It is brand new. It is big. It is light and it is mine!
What sounds, scents and sights do you encounter while in your studio?
I like watching the big pigeons in the thorn tree in front of the window while waiting for the coffee to finish.
What is your favourite material to work with? How has your use of it evolved throughout your practice?
I tend to use classical sculptural materials such as wood, metal and glas. The simplicity of cutting wood and the difference of painting on it compared to oil on canvas is what I like.
What themes do you pursue?
shape, color, space
What advice has had the biggest impact on your career?
That I am a painter and not a sculptor.
If you could install your art absolutely anywhere, where would that be?
In my private museum that has not been build, yet.
If you weren´t an artist, what would you be doing?
What are your favourite places besides your studio?
landscape on my bike
