The ideas for his paintings and their motifs don´t arise in his studio. „They were in my mind before, reaching from surrealism to melancholia“. His motif research is also backed by a theoretical dispute with idealistic and culture-critical questions. You can find the texts in his catalogues.
Why did he move from Munich to Berlin more then a decade ago? „ Because Berlin is the headquarter of my field. Considering that out of 250.000 artists only 250 can make a living and perhaps only five an excellent one - this creates a certain amount of pressure.“
Notwithstanding, we found the atmosphere in his studio quite relaxed, with a sofa, garden chairs and even a cactus. Something else is really important to Michael concerning rooms in general: The height! „Anything below 3,20 meters is only good for guinea pigs.“
If you could install your art absolutely anywhere, where would that be?
In the tunnel system of CERN in Geneva
If you weren´t an artist, what would you be doing?
The assistant of the assistant of the assistant
What are your favourite places besides your studio?
Somewhere in Kythera
