Size does not matter when it comes to his 300 sqm studio. „I might as well work in a 6 sqm space - The main factor are the lightning conditions. Only daylight is true light, only this spectrum reflects the colours right.“

The ideas for his paintings and their motifs don´t arise in his studio. „They were in my mind before, reaching from surrealism to melancholia“.  His motif research is also backed by a theoretical dispute with idealistic and culture-critical questions. You can find the texts in his catalogues.

Why did he move from Munich  to Berlin more then a decade ago? „ Because Berlin is the headquarter of my field. Considering that out of 250.000 artists only 250 can make a living and  perhaps only five  an excellent one - this creates a certain amount of pressure.“

Notwithstanding, we found the atmosphere in his studio quite relaxed, with a sofa, garden chairs and even a cactus. Something else is really important to Michael concerning rooms in general: The height! „Anything below 3,20 meters is only good for guinea pigs.“
